HP Spare Parts Ordering Carries Labor Charge

June 24th, 2011 No comments

Ordering spare parts like power adapter or notebook battery from Hewlett-Packard (Thailand) Ltd. carries 300 baht labor charge while no labor is involved. We wonder if HP headquarters are aware of this? HP runs a dedicated site, partsurfer.hp.com, where people in many countries can order the parts directly. This option does not seem to be available in Thailand.
HP website lists two partners in Thailand: SiS Distribution (Thailand) PCL and The Value Systems Co., Ltd.
We will check if the individual customers can order the spare parts from them and report back here.

Data Recovery from SCSI HP HDD

April 17th, 2009 No comments

We successfully recovered 100% of data from HP SCSI HDD for Faculty of Medicine, Songkla University.
HP BD03695A27 is actually a re-branded Seagate drive. Disk was showing a “Medium Error” on the controller, the capacity recognized by the controller was wrong – 100000 sectors. This a typical translator problem occurring on the Seagate SCSI drives. The recovered image was cloned to the identical drive and the engineers at the Songkla University were able to boot and use the server the same way as before the crash.
