Download driver from VIA website, unpack
Navigate to Vinyl\drivers\Vista32WDM or Vinyl\drivers\Vista64WDM, open Vinyl97.inf for editing
Add the following line between the others:
%*WDM_VIAudio.DeviceDesc%=WDM_VIAudio, PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3059&SUBSYS_810D1043
Save, point the driver installation from Device Manager to this folder
Plug the speakers into the microphone (pink) jack

Chicony WebCam upside-down fix

Chicony WebCams are mounted upside-down in some notebooks (Asus G1S, B50A; Packard Bell EasyNote BG35 AKA Horus G2). Usually Vista drivers correct this issue somehow but XP drivers often give upside-down picture.

In registry branch: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class locate the entry with UVC WebCam

In Settings (not DefaultSettings!) change both Flip and Mirror to 1

Choosing a Notebook

We are very often asked how to choose a notebook. In fact for a mainstream user there are not too many options to consider.

Do not buy the notebook with Intel or S3 graphics. Choose NVidia or ATI graphics instead.
Make sure the notebook has an international warranty, preferably 2 years or more.
Decide what’s more important for you — portability or usability. Usually it will be very tiresome for eyes to work long hours on the screen sizes less than 13″. On the other hand, 17″ screen notebook is not a nicest thing to lug around on a world tour. Most common size is 14″ wide screen.
If you want to watch movies from the notebook on the LCD or Plasma TV, make sure the notebook has an HDMI output and it supports HDCP.
