Mobile Number Portability – True to DTAC

December 14th, 2010 No comments

I posted before what I wanted to transfer my prepaid True number to DTAC. Today I inquired again at the DTAC Support Center and was told what i can finally do it, but only at Bangkok DTAC offices. Only passport is needed and the process takes 2-3 days. No SIM replacement necessary, you will be notified by SMS when the transition is approved. So I would definitely do it when I am in BKK next time.

POS Software in Thailand

December 12th, 2010 1 comment

We wanted to find the POS software what will work fine with the modern touchscreen desktop PCs like Lenovo C200. We don’t like the idea of dedicated POS hardware systems: they cost twice as much, usually have poor performance specs and outdated hardware, and the most important – the support is  generally very poor inThailand. If the power supply in your shiny POS terminal will break (a very common failure), you might need to wait for a couple of weeks! before your supplier will ship the replacement. And it will cost you up to 5x the price of the common power supply. Therefore our recommendation for the small shops with single terminal is to stick with the common computers, at least you will be able to put another computer as a standby if necessary. The problem is: most modern compact PCs do not have parallel or serial ports, so all the hardware (barcode scanner, cash drawer, receipt printer etc.) should be USB only.

Here we decided to collect the list of POS Software providers represented in Thailand.

POSeTIVE – These guys are bold enough to require Microsoft Silverlight just to display their homepage! Software is for bars and restaurants.

Ada Soft – different software packages for different kinds of businesses

  • AdaPOS Lite – Thai language only
  • AdaPOS SME – 19000 baht, USB check printers not supported!

CSI-Watch – Phuket-based software company. Uses MSSQL Express backend, has a monitoring module, works with USB receipt printers, Thai language module is in the works.
