Conexant audio (vendor 14F1, device 5047) – no sound on Windows 7 – solved

Computer with a problem: HP Pavilion dv5227tx (I believe the solution is applicable to many dv5000 series laptops).

Sound device: Vendor ID 14F1, Device ID 5047

Windows 7 installs the driver but it is unable to start.
Downloaded sp35682 from HP Support site, this is a driver version 3.38.0.50 dated 03/26/2007.
Unpacked it and pointed the Driver Installation Wizard to the unpacked folder.
Driver installed fine but there were no sound from the speakers.
There was sound through the headphones.

I compared the registry settings from the original XP installation with the current ones.

The following key attracted my attention:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0007\Settings\OEM\DefaultJack]

I changed some keys back to the values they had on XP as follows:

“Wid13″=hex:01,02,01,00
“Wid14″=hex:02,00,01,00
“Wid15″=hex:0a,01,01,00
“Wid17″=hex:0a,01,00,00
“Wid1D”=hex:01,02,00,00

Restarted and bingo! Sound through the speakers!

After upgrading my HP Pavilion DV5000 laptop from Windows XP to Windows 7 the Conexant soundcard did not work anymore. Both HP and Conexant could not help me. The solution above made it work again. After months of silence I’m finally enjoying music again. Thank you!

I thank you for posting this, because it really fixed my audio. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the registry key you were talking about, so sound only comes out of the jack. I just wanted to know, does this fix apply to HP Pavilion dv5250ca? If not, what can I do?

    Thanks though!

That’s the issue with your DVD player software, check something like “Sound output device” in it’s settings… Or volume turned down in player? :)

I found the keys in Windows 7 (32bit) SP1 under

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}000\Settings\OEM\DefaultJack

    Applied the fixes:

    “Wid13″=hex:01,02,01,00
    “Wid14″=hex:02,00,01,00
    “Wid15″=hex:0a,01,01,00
    “Wid17″=hex:0a,01,00,00
    “Wid1D”=hex:01,02,00,00

and it worked for me! (HP Pavilion dv5000 as well)

You are a genius!!! I applied the fix under 0000(instead of 0007 which was not there) and it worked!!!! (My system is a DV5217TX).

I had the same problem. No sound from the internal speakers.

My solution was to change the registry value “SpeakerNR” from 0 to 1 in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Conexant\SoundSource\AudioConfig
And the sound came back from the internal speakers. Problem solved for me.

The laptop is not HP but Acer.

Tried for a few hours to fix this problem of no sound for a collegue with no results from the HP website. Followed the instructions on your site, could also not find the registry 0007 but checked under 0000 and found it. Applied the changes suggested, and rebooted. Laptop has decided to install 50 upgrades so just waiting for this to complete to test out the sound.

……….Yes it works. A very big thanks to you, now this seafarer can head back to his vessel and have music to listen to :-)
